Their magnificent empire, Tenochtitlán, was the birthplace of legendary warriors who, with unwavering strength and unimaginable determination, defended their people. Aztec warriors were more than just ordinary soldiers - they were mystical guardians of ancient secrets, embodiments of the powerful forces that permeated their world, and they also inspired awe and respect for their cruelty.
From a young age, future warriors underwent rigorous training. Boys attended calmecac or telpochcalli, where they acquired both combat and spiritual skills. Every aspect of a warrior's education was deeply rooted in traditions and mystical teachings, shaping them as defenders and spiritual guides of their people.
The Aztec army was organized according to a strict hierarchy, at the top of which were two elite groups: the warriors of the Eagles (cuāuhtli) and the warriors of the Jaguars (ocēlōtl). These distinguished warriors stood out not only for their courage, but also for their incredible skills on the battlefield. Their richly decorated costumes, full of symbolism and mysticism, were meant to intimidate the enemy and pay homage to the gods. The warriors of the Eagles symbolized the sun and its power, while the Jaguars embodied the nocturnal force and elusive agility.
Rituals played a key role in the lives of warriors. Before each battle, they made sacrifices to the gods, asking for blessings and protection. Huitzilopochtli, the god of war and the sun, was one of the most important deities. The warriors believed that after death, their souls would accompany Huitzilopochtli in his eternal battle against the forces of darkness. Every battle was for them a rite of passage, leading to higher states of consciousness and closeness to the deities.
Aztec warriors were masters in using various types of weapons. The famous macuahuitl - wooden swords with obsidian blades - could cut through the hardest armor. Their tactics were based on surprising and intimidating the enemy, which often led to quick victories. The warriors were also skilled in using the atlatl, or spear thrower, which allowed them to attack from a greater distance. Every weapon, every tool of war was imbued with spiritual energy, enhancing their strength and precision.
What truly set Aztec warriors apart was their brutality. The warriors were known for capturing prisoners during battles, who were later sacrificed to the gods. The heart torn from the living body of the victim symbolized devotion and gratitude to the gods, and was also supposed to provide strength and prosperity for the nation. This bloody practice was both a demonstration of power and spiritual devotion. Their methods inspired terror among their enemies, but also strengthened their position in a world full of conflict and rivalry.

The author and performer of the engraving is Grzegorz Wisnziowski, who has
been designing and artisanally crafting fountain pens for nearly a
decade. Able Snail pens, as they are known, find customers worldwide -
from European countries, through China, India, Japan, to the United
States, New Zealand, and Australia.
Grzegorz uses traditional techniques and some of the oldest materials
that were used to produce fountain pens nearly 100 years ago in his
projects. These include ebonite and precious metals such as silver and
gold. It was the introduction of silver that sparked Grzegorz's interest
in engraving, which he has gradually incorporated into his projects. His
works most often feature floral motifs interwoven with traditional
acanthus leaves, which have been used since ancient times. Engraved Able
Snail pens are produced in small series or are unique works of art.
Since the beginning of my work in designing, I have been accompanied by
the desire to elevate traditional craftsmanship to a higher level. To the
level of art, making the products gain their own, unique and
inimitable resonance. They become not just utilitarian objects, they
become art.
In my work, I definitely focus on uniqueness and singularity.
I know my clients very well. It is often the case that when starting
work on a particular project, I know who the buyer will be. I am aware
that these are collectors who own pens or knives of immense value. This
makes me all the more pleased that my works are appreciated in their
eyes. In the eyes of people who can appreciate the craftsmanship and
uniqueness of the work I have done.
