The details are not the details. They make the design.

The crucial factor that sets our work apart from is essentially a passion for detail. Each individual project presents Us with unique challenges, and we set the bar higher and higher with every new undertaking. The client’s preferences receive exceptional attention. We devote significant time to talking to our client and to meeting their expectations in full. In short, we deliver Project One of a Kind.
Our art is born not only through the dedicated hours in the atelier or at the easel, but above all through the time devoted to in-depth analysis and the search for new inspirations. Only by working together can we create a piece worthy of being called Art – unique, emotional and of the highest quality. We will make every effort to ensure that it is so.

Take a dive with us into olden times to explore the eloquent symbolisms of Danse Macabre – a motif that fascinated men throughout the medieval age and has notable influences on art and literature to this day. Together with the themes of Vanitas and Memento Mori, it perfectly incorporated the duality of inexorable beauty and the inevitability of decay and death.
Exploring the annals of art history, we can find many symbols depicting the transience of life and wealth: human skull, hourglass, skeleton, extinguished candles and cut flowers. Vanity, on the other hand, is portrayed by fauna and flora.
Flowers, leaves and branches symbolize vitality and the force of life. Each flower comes with its own unique metaphors. The rose symbolizes love and sexuality. Poppy seed - a sedative - symbolizes sleep and weakness at the hour of death. Tulips were once a flower available only to the wealthy Dutch – a symbol of frivolous spending[1].
The floral ornament on the Herman Slim knife was inspired on a acanthus leaves, which is a key to styles down the ages. The acanthus leaves we can find in the art and architecture of Greek Corinthian capitals where the leaves were modelled on the thorny leaves of the real plant acanthus spinosus; The Romans used (and some would say over-used) the smoother leaves of the acanthus mollis; and the broad acanthus leaf of the Renaissance then replaced highly stylized, simplified leaf used by the Romans. The acanthus leaf was banished during the Gothic period and atrophied under Louis XIII[2]. 24 carat gold inlay symbolizes masculinity, can be a indication of triumph, achievement and success.
Today, tattoos embody many of the overtones of Danse Macabre. Skulls, insects, flowers, birds and the balance of life and death are some of the most depicted tattoos. The modern zombie theme is nothing more than a fascination with the death and what may come after.
Conventionally, hand engraving and hunter shotguns have been hand-in-hand. The possession of a richly decorated and engraved shotgun proves the rank and splendor of the owner. It serves not only in hunting or combat, but also to decorate the armory and be an object of admiration and desire. Owners often pose with their intricately carved guns for official portraits. Today engraved guns and watches are coveted collector’s items.
The traditional art of hand engraving is now also venturing into the modern world. World-class titanium steel knives engraved delicately with a timeless, classic style of art - yet art that is harmonious with the contemporary trends – at M. Kalla Engraving, this is precisely our forte.
Engraving and the fashioning of high art, however, is done not just to convey the beauty of an ornament or a motif. Foremost, we convey emotions. For our clients and supporters avidly following our work, we create a feeling of magic and olden whimsy. To provoke deeper reflection and a search for profound meaning is the true purpose of art. Through our engravings, we aim to touch souls.
Project DANSE MACABRE is a waltz between the old and the new. The age-old dance with Death is set to a modern tune: old steel engraving techniques coupled with a fresh, new approach. Come with us and together we can make a leap towards the Avant Garde.
